Caudron European Champion
Frédéric Caudron has put another title on his name. This weekend, he won the European Championship in Cervera (Spain). He competed against Jean Paul de Bruijn in the finals. These two never met before in the finals of this title race.
Caudron started the game with series of 43 and 44 and took the lead of 87-27 after two turns. De Bruijn could not get back, Caudron was the stronger party. He run out in the third turn to 108-42 and eventually won with 150-48 in six turns. "The start was crucial," Caudron says. "I took the lead and that gave me more confidence. Also the tables felt good. The matches that I did not played so well, were on poor tables."
This was the sixth time Caudron won this title and that is as much as De Bruijn. The Dutchman expected more of the final. "But still I am satisfied with the second place," De Bruijn states. "Frédéric is a great player and I knew on forehand that the only way to win is to be extremely good. I was not this match. I missed three chances to make a higher series and Caudron took advantage of that immediately."
Caudron ended this tournament with an average of 16.81, De Bruijn with 12.65.
